Livestock

They also keep livestock such as cows, goats and chickens. Snakes, Civet Cats, Mongoose, etc are a real threat to the chickens and occasionally lions can get a reasonable meal from the domestic goats and cows.

Sponsorship

Although this is mainly a Spiritual Link, help is also given (from our Overseas Mission in particular) in providing water for the community, sponsoring children's education and paying their school fees, helping to fund classrooms for the school, etc. Living in the bush means they have very little chance of earning money to buy essential items such as food and clothing. The Post office is 30 kilometres away and the bus fare is too expensive, so hitching a lift both ways usually means a whole day's trip. They get no "Dole" money or any other benefits from the government and have to pay for all health problems. Without this help from us the community would be in a far worse position.

Monthly Link

Each month, several copies of the Parish Magazine, the "Margate Herald" are posted out to a few members of St. Teresa Church, which are then read by the whole community.

What can we do?

Remember the people of Mabale in your prayers. Last Christmas, members of St. John's congregation signed a Christmas Card, which was taken out and presented to the congregation of St. Teresa's, who were absolutely delighted. Perhaps this can be an annual event. For more information, or to make a donation, please contact the Vicars Office -
